We are having a major cultural event on August 29th – “Siddendra Yogi Jayanthotsavam and Vaggeyakarotsavam”.
Accomplished artist, Padmashree – Dr. Shobha Raju Garu is visiting Houston and will perform “Annamacharya” Keertanalu at this event.

This annual event is an attempt by TCA to preserve and promote the cultural heritage of the Telugu people. We invite all Telugu people and classical music enthusiasts to attend this event and make it a grand success.

At this program we are also seeking participants for singing and dance performances. We are requesting singers for Classical and Semi-Classical songs and dances for Kuchipudi Dance. The theme would be Classical Songs by Annamayya, Kshetrayya, Narayana Theertha, Thyagayya, Ramadasu, etc.

• Total time allotted for a group performance is 5 minutes.

TCA is planning to conduct a Town Hall type session for Telugu Badi which conducts classes for children to exchange ideas on the following:

General interest of Telugu Community in making their children learn Telugu with an objective for the children to achieve a determined level
Currently there are several centers (not all are organized by TCA) where children are taught the language. There is no common curriculum. Shall we make an attempt to make a uniform syllabus by defining the objectives clearly? Is there benefit in doing so?
The classes are generally informal. Can we all uniformly conduct the classes such that the children are tested and encourage them to reach a reasonable level of proficiency?
Many must have heard of Mana Badi organized by Silicon Andhra. Sri Sankar, Treasurer of Mana Badi, will be coming from Dallas to present to all of us on various issues related to the organization, the expected proficiency of different levels, how the children can achieve the desired levels, the teachers and the teaching methods, the benefits of the relatively highly structured system of Mana Badi, the cots involved, etc. Mana Badi is a highly structured method of teaching Telugu with an objective to achieve a level recognized by Potti Sriramulu University in Hyderabad. Attempts are on the way to ensure obtaining high school credits for the children.

This will be an interesting presentation. The idea of organizing this event is to exchange ideas, allow the parents to decide on how they want their children to achieve the desired objective and choose a path considering all pros and cons.

Concept: It is well known around the world that Houston has a great deal of talent among all age groups in various performing arts. This segment is designed to showcase their talents through friendly competitions and honoring the most deserving.

Dress code for all age groups: Langa & Voni for girls, sarees/salwar-kameez for ladies or Indian dress for boys & adults.
Talent in performing arts: Singing, instruments, classical dance, movie dance, mimicry, any other
Format: Each participant to exhibit their talent in 5 mins each. TV 9 selects three finalists and a winner.

Mahesh Iyer is a disciple of Vidwan Sri. S. Easwara Varma, professor of music from Swathi Thirunal Music Academy in Thiruvananthapuram. He was deeply passionate about music from his early childhood and initially devoted all of his time to vocal music. Later on he pursued violin purely by chance. He has since matured into a promising accompanist and has played for numerous artists in USA and India. Mahesh is also actively involved in organizing Carnatic music concerts here in the Houston area and is also the founder director of Pravavam School of Arts. An engineer by profession, he always finds time for promoting music.

(శ్రీ శాయి రాచకొండ నిర్వహణలో హ్యూస్టన్ తెలుగు సాంస్కృతిక సమితి సాహిత్య విభాగం మొట్ట మొదటి సారిగా తలపెట్టిన “గొలుసు కథ” మొదటి భాగం ఈ క్రింద పొందుపరిచాం. ఈ కథా రచన కొనసాగించడంలో మా సూచనలు కూడా ఇస్తున్నాం. ఇవి తప్పకుండా పాటింఛి తీరాలనే నియమం లేదు. మీ సృజనాత్మక శక్తికి పదును పెట్టి ఆసక్తి కరమైన, ఆహ్లాదకరమైన విధంగా ఈ కథని ముందుకు సాగించండి. సాధారణంగా కథానిక ప్రారంభంలోనే ముగింపుకు సూచనలు ఉంటాయి. కాని గొలుసు కథకి మధ్యలోనే ఆ సూచనలు ఉంటాయి. అయితే కథానిక మొదట్లో కొన్ని “వాగ్దానాలు” కూడా ఉంటాయి. ఈ గొలుసు కథ ప్రారంభంలో మీకు ఏవైనా “వాగ్దానాలు” తోస్తే, వాటిని ముందుకు తీసుకెళ్ళ వచ్చును. లేదా ఒక సబ్ ప్లాట్ సృష్టించవచ్చు. ఈ గొలుసు కథ పూర్తి అయిన తరవాతనే శీర్షిక పోటీ కూడా జరుగుతుంది.)

కథా రచన కొనసాగించడంలో మా సూచనలు:

1. ఏ కథానికకైనా కాలము, స్థలము, భిన్న భిన్న పాత్రలూ, కొంచెం నాటకీయత ఉండాలి, కానీ సమతూకంలో ఉండక్కర లేదు.
2. సాధారణంగా కథలో మరీ ఎక్కువ పాత్రలు, అనవసరమైన వర్ణనలూ ఉండకూడదు. ఉన్న పాత్రలకి సహజమైన సంబంధాలూ, సంభాషణలూ ఉండాలి.
3. కథలోని సంఘటనలు లోకంలో జరిగేవిగా ఉండాలి. మరీ ఎక్కువ సంఘటనలూ, మరీ రొటీన్ గా ఉండేవీ రాణించవు.
4. కథా శిల్పానికి సంబంధించి, పాత్ర చిత్రణ, సంఘర్షణ పెంపొందించడం, ఉత్సుహకత..అంతే సస్పెన్స్, సంభాషణా రచన సమతూకంలో ఉండాలి. శరీరానికి అస్థిపంజరం ఎంత అవసరమో, కథకి వస్తువు అంత అవసరం.
5. పాఠకుల ఊహా శక్తికి, అవగాహనకీ తగిన ఆలంబన ఇవ్వాలి. అంతే కాని, వాళ్ళ కంటే పై మెట్టులో ఉన్న అభిప్రాయం కలిగించ కూడదు.
6. కథా రచన, గమనం సాధారణంగా చిన్న చిన్న ముచ్చట్లు, లేదా సంఘటనల మీద ఆధారపడి ఉంటుంది.

మొదటి భాగం రచన: వంగూరి చిట్టెన్ రాజు

అసలు అలా జరుగుతుందని శివరాం కలలో కూడా అనుకో లేదు. కంపెనీలో తనకున్న ప్రాధాన్యత అతనికి తెలుసు. అలా అని ఎప్పుడూ నిర్లక్ష్యంగా ఉండే వాడు కాదు. అమెరికాలో చాలా సంవత్సరాలు గొప్పగా పని చేసినా, ప్రవర్తన, ఉద్యోగంలో ప్రావీణ్యత కొన్నాళ్ళు మాత్రమే తగ్గు మొహం పట్టినా, రోజు రోజుకూ అభివృధ్ధీ, మార్పూ శరవేగంగా సాగుతున్న టెక్నాలజీతో తనూ ఎదగకపోతే ఇక అంతే సంగతులు. నిన్ననే కష్టపడి ప్రోజెక్ట్ పూర్తి చేసి, కష్టమర్ కి ప్రోడక్ట్ సకాలంలో, తగిన స్థాయిలో అందించాడు. ఇక మిగిలినదల్లా రియల్ టైమ్ టెస్టింగ్ మాత్రమే. దానికి అవసరమైతేనే తనని పిలుస్తారు క్లయింట్ సైట్ నుంచి. అంచేత మళ్ళీ కొత్త ప్రాజెక్ట్ మొదలు పెట్టే దాకా, అంటే ఒక వారం రోజుల పాటు తాను “వర్కింగ్ ఫ్రం హోమ్”, అంటే, ఇంట్లోంచే “పని” చెయ్య వచ్చును అన్న మాట.
అప్పుడే లంచ్ కి కష్టమర్ తో వెళ్ళి మళ్ళీ ఆఫీసుకి వచ్చి, ఆ వేళ శుక్రవారమే కదా, కొంచెం రిలాక్స్ అవవచ్చును అనుకుంటున్న సమయంలో “శివరాం, కొంప ములిగేలా ఉంది. ఎప్పుడూ తనే నా సీటు దగ్గరకే వచ్చి కిచ కిచ లాడే మా బాస్ నన్ను తన కేబిన్ లోకి రమ్మని పిలిచాడు. కాస్సేపట్లో ఎందుకో తెలుస్తుంది…మళ్ళీ నిన్ను కాంటాక్ట్ చేస్తాను” అని తన కంప్యూటర్ లో మెసేజ్ ఉంది. ఆ మెసేజ్ అక్కడికి ఎదురుగుండా ఉన్న భవనం నాలుగో అంతస్థులోంచి వచ్చింది. ఆ వార్త పంపినది మధుర వాణి. ఆమె శివరాం భార్య. ఆమె బాస్ పేరు పీటర్ టాంగ్. వియత్నాం నుంచి దిగుమతి అయ్యాడు.

శివరామూ, మధుర వాణీ ఇద్దరూ ఐటీ నిపుణులే. చాలాకాలం ఒకే ఆఫీసులో వేరే అంతస్థుల్లో పని చేసే రోజుల్లో కూడా వాళ్ళు కంప్యూటర్ లోనే ఎక్కువ మాట్లాడుకునే వారు. అంతకంటే “కొట్టుకునే వారు” అంటే సరి అయిన మాట. ఇద్దరూ ఒక తలమాసిన కంపెనీ ద్వారా హెచ్ వన్ వీసా మీద అమెరికా వచ్చి, మెల్లిగా గ్రీన్ కార్డ్ సంపాదించుకుని “అమెరికా కల” ని అనుభవిసున్నారు. అంటే, వెంకట శివరామ కృష్ణ అనబడే వాడు ఉత్తి “రామ్” గానూ, మధురవాణి “మేడీ” గానూ రూపాంతరం చెందడం , ఎనిమిదేళ్ళ ఆడ పిల్లా, ఐదేళ్ళ మగ పిల్లాడూ, ఖరీదైన ఇల్లూ, స్టాక్ మార్కెట్ లో ఒడుదుడుకులూ, తెలుగు టీవీలు చూస్తూ జాలి పడడాలూ, అప్పుడప్పుడు అనవసరంగా అమెరికా వచ్చామే అని విచారపడడాలూ వీటన్నిటితోనూ వారి జీవితం సాగిపోతోంది.

“ఆ పీటర్ గాడు అంత కొంపముంచే రకం కాదు. ఇక్కడ నా సంగతే అంతుపట్టడం లేదు. ఈ శుక్రవారప్పూట సస్పెన్సులు భరించ లేకపోతున్నాం. సాయంత్రానికి కొన్ని నిర్ణయాలు తెలుస్తాయి కానీ, ఇవాళ పావనీకో, మయూరీకో వెళ్దాం డిన్నర్ కి. దీపక్ కి గేమ్ లేదు కాబట్టి పరవా లేదు. అన్నట్టు ఇవాళ మానికాకి డాన్స్ క్లాస్ ఉందా కొంపతీసి. ఉంటే కేన్సిల్ చేసేయ్” మెసేజ్ పంపించాడు శివరాం.

“నేను ఇప్పుడే మేనేజ్మెంట్ మీటింగ్ నుంచి బయటకు వచ్చాను. కంగ్రాట్యులేషన్స్, రామ్”…తన తమిళ సూపర్ వైజర్ వేలాయుదన్ శివరాం భుజం మీద చెయ్యేసి అభినందనలు తెలియజేశాడు.
కంగ్రాట్యులేషన్సా? ఎందుకూ అనుకుంటూ ఉండగానే కంప్యూటర్ ట్రింగ్ అంది. అంటే, ఏదో మెసేజ్ వచ్చిందన మాట. అది కూడా “మేడీ’ నుంచే!
